"I had read a lot of bad reviews about The Gallivant Times Square after booking my week-long stay, and honestly, I was worried I was going to have a terrible experience. But to my surprise, everything turned out to be great.\n\nThe room was beautiful and spotless, the elevators were fast and always working, and I didn’t have a single issue during my entire stay — not even with the deposit.\n\nIf you’re looking for a hotel just to sleep and rest, and not to spend your whole day inside, this place is perfect. The room was small, yes, but that’s clearly stated before booking, so it wasn’t a problem. And the location is unbeatable — right in Times Square, close to everything.\n\nI ended up having a much better experience than I expected and would definitely consider staying here again."

"Easily the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had.\n\nFrom the moment we checked in, things were off. We had paid for a double bed room, but were given a single queen-sized bed instead. When we asked for what we originally booked or at least a refund for the difference we were completely dismissed. No explanation, no apology, just a cold “no” like we didn’t matter.\n\nThe room itself? Dirty. Hair in the bathroom, stained sheets, and a weird smell that lingered the whole time.\nWe tried calling the front desk and room service multiple times, and not once did anyone pick up. It felt like we were just left to figure things out ourselves.\n\nThe thing that really hurt was that they were especially rude and dismissive with us as a brown family. It’s hard to ignore when you’re the only guests being treated like a burden while others are greeted with smiles and help. Whether it was racism or unconscious bias, it was clear we weren’t treated the same.\n\nTo top it off, at checkout they refused to return our security deposit. No reason given. Just “oh we can't refund it unfortunately". We didn’t damage anything. We didn’t break any rules. We were just ignored and pushed aside again.\n\nThis place was unclean, unprofessional, and possibly discriminatory. If you’re a traveler of color or just someone who expects basic respect and honesty stay far away."

"Let's start from the top. During check-in, we were helped by a woman with short hair and very large glasses. She was extremely rude and sounded very unhappy to be there. I could tell that we were not about to have a good time. The day we arrived they were servicing one of the elevators, leaving only one elevator really working. There was one more, but that one also barely worked.\nThroughout the rest of the trip elevators would take anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes to arrive so we ended up using the stairs most of the time luckily we were on the fourth floor. Our room was clean, but the mattress had a distinct smell and so did the room itself. Not to mention the lack of lighting, throughout the room. The walls were covered in missing patches of paint And they had taken off the thermostat which controlled the AC unit. Leaving us stuck with an extremely cold room the entire trip. The room also lacked in power outlets. We had to charge our phones on the desk, which was very far away from where we slept. The bathroom was the most disappointing we were given a room that did not have a shower divider meaning that when you walked into the room, there was just a toilet a sink and a hose to shower under nothing to keep the water from going all over the bathroom on top of that the hose was angled at a very very low position which meant that you had to take it off the hook and shower by hand. The toilet was so close to the sink that my arm would touch it every time I sat down. I bumped my elbow multiple times on the sink, trying to wipe myself very uncomfortable and very poorly designed. I had to ask for multiple towels so that I could put them all over the floor before I showered. And once again during checkout, the unhappy receptionist was very unprofessional and unkind.\nThe only reason this hotel is still open is because of its amazing location."
