"Very good experience of an old style ryokan, affordable and centrally located. The staff is amicable. The food is good. The shared baths and private family bath are a nice touch, a welcome respite after a day of walking. As a family it was very pleasant experience.\nObviously, if some modernizing or simple replacing the old and worn-out room decorations could be done, it would be more pleasant. I would focus on the room decorations and the lighting, then on the baths. Give the place a nice blend of old and new."

"Large, very attractive, older ryokan in a quiet residential area, but walking distance to many restaurants, shopping, Tokyo University and subway stations. No toilets in the rooms. Shared western-style toilets and Japanese-style baths are down the hall. Meals are available if you order the day before. Large staff is very friendly and most speak some amount of English.\n\nThey have 3 different buildings, 2 adjacent and one several blocks away. Use the map on their website to find your building, since Google Maps gets confused by the 3 locations."

"Staying at Homeikan Morikawa Annex was a delight. The location was excellent, within walking distance of Tokyo Dome and the many fun activities there, the beautiful campus of Todai (University of Tokyo), Ueno Park and Ueno Okamachi where I was able to enjoy reasonable shops and delicious izakaya and ramen. Other highlights included the spacious tatami room, tasty breakfast, and overall care by the staff. Something I wouldn't have expected was the attention to little details such as the wooden flowers as part of the shoji screens or the unique decorations over the different sinks or the Roman collage in the ofuro (bath). I would definitely stay here again."
