"Location is good but don't expect a great room stay"

"Bed bugs. That’s the only criteria that I have in a hotel, that it not have bed bugs. I did get bit by bed bugs here and it’s very itchy & painful now, so I wish I’d stayed somewhere else. Bed bugs aside, I encountered the following Claridge Hotel:\n\n-there’s only sheets on the bed and an optional old blanket from WWII in the closet\n-a tremendous amount of noise\n-vagrants/addicts/refugees milling around the area (and pulling their pants down right out front pissing)\n-a toilet that continuously ran and bathroom light bulbs that burnt out\n-a paint job that hasn’t been touched up since the Berlin Wall was still up\n-weak wifi that you have to compete with others to get to a website\n-old key system where you leave the metal key with the front desk when you go out.\n\nNone of these things would have bothered me enough to cancel the stay except for the bed bugs. Of course I inspected the sheets when we arrived but I didn’t see any so I didn’t mind the 70 year old furniture and old peeling paint.\n\nchances are, if you’re reading this review you already know this hotel is the cheapest option in athens that’s not a hostel, and comes with a private bathroom; you’ve seen the low star reviews & you’re trying to decide if you should chance it & stay here because maybe you think everyone else is a bunch of spoiled whiny complainers.\nI’m giving them a generous 2 stars because\n1. the staff is nice. both the helpful front desk & the housekeepers that do clean\n2. the convenient location near the train, restaurants, stores, museums, walking distance to Acropolis\n3. the cheap price, lowest on the travel booking sites\nMy spouse permanently revoked my hotel booking privileges after this place. He said “if you have respect for yourself don’t stay here”. But my kids age 16 & 26 were fine with it."

"The 3 receptionist throughout the day were all very kind people. The rooms were alright quality with it needing a fresh lick of paint and upgraded TVs. The air conditioning was old but I saw new boxes of air conditioning in the hallway so I think they will be upgraded. The location was also great with a lovely view of a beautiful fountain and it was right next to great restaurants."
